DREAM RIFT #1 • September 2026

Hello, fellow Riftwalker!

Grab a cup of coffee and sit with me in the liminal space.

Autumn is coming and that means hoodies and pumpkin spiced everything 🎃

For me, Fall is when my busy season begins and they’re getting busier and busier!

In just a few weeks, I’ll get to discuss Witches and Clowns with my panel/workshop cohorts at the Colorado Festival of Horror (Sept. 18-20th). What happens to our identity and morals when we put on that Clown mask and how does that affect our behavior and how we’re perceived? In our Witches workshop we’re going to look at examples of how witches are portrayed in horror and dissect that. The guests of honor are sure to Terrify and delight! This is my third year presenting at CoFoH and I’m honored to be invited back!

This year I’m dusting off some skills, reinforcing others, and learning new ones by attending the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer’s Gold Conference at the beginning of October. On an insomnia-inspired night, I went all-out nerd and printed out every class/panel/discussion being presented and highlighted the ones I was interested in (yellow) and which ones were a must-see (orange). The pages are filled with so much interest they look like a sunset. I don’t know how I’m going to pick–perhaps I’ll find a device before then to bend time and take them all!

In October I’ll be a panelist at Mile Hi Con. Fingers crossed that I get on some AI panels. This is a hot topic and opinions vary vastly on it. The Cosplay at MHC is always a highlight and I’m sure this year will be no exception! I’ll be posting on social media the panels I’ll be on so keep your eye out!

Now for the super exciting stuff…

Let’s talk about my passion project: Dance of the Gods. I wanted to create a story that shows people that even through adversity, they can come out on top. Literary escapism is what saved me many times over. When I felt like I had lost everything–including myself, I could pick up a book and be transported instantly to a place I didn’t have a stake in.

I got lost in the wilderness with Jack London, suffered unspeakable grief and horror with Dan Simmons, lost my mind with HP Lovecraft, and felt seen with Jean Craighead George. There are so many others to who saved me when things felt bleak and I want to give that back.

I’ve spent the better part of these past few decades on a journey of realms and magic and I’m stoked that I get to share that with you. The Dance of the Gods universe is vast. I'm looking forward to exploring its wildernesses, dark alleys, and liminal spaces with you.

I’m so glad you’re on this journey with me!

P.S. Add me to your contacts so the spam gremlins don't make off with future issues of The Dream Rift.

Keep your eyes open!

You never know when a rift will appear...

Candy Fantastic's red-lipped business cards arranged on her desk for the Colorado Festival of Horror

Greetings, Riftwalker! Since my last newsletter, I've had the terrifying pleasure of attending the Colorado Festival of Horror as a panelist for the third year in a row, and as usual, it did NOT disappoint. With a carnival of guests including David Howard Thornton, the Chiodo brothers (I neeeed to rewatch Killer Clowns from Outer Space), Barbara Hampton, and more, there was certainly no lack of people and things to see. My 2026 CoFoH business card design One of my favorite parts of...
